OTHON
& TOMASINI are Greek composer/pianist/songwriter Othon Mataragas
and Italian actor/singer/artiste Ernesto Tomasini. Othon's original and
unclassifiable repertoire, coupled with his virtuoso piano playing, and
Tomasini's huge range and unique renditions make for an intense and
twisted experience that is as dark as it is grotesque. Haunting music,
deranged performance art and heightened theatricality are Othon &
Tomasini's trademarks. Since
2007 they have performed in prestigious concert halls, churches and
theatres in major cities around Europe. Their concert at the "Bienal de
Zamora 2009" was broadcast on Radio 3 (Spanish National Radio), they
were guests on the "Helter Skelter Show" on Radio Aligre in Paris and
their tracks were transmitted on Radio MEC (Brasil), Kser (USA) and on
Kiel FM (Germany), among others. They feature on the soundtrack
(Crippled Dick Hot Wax Records) of Bruce LaBruce's movie: "Otto; or, Up
with Dead People" (2008) and performed with Peter Christopherson (Coil,
Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV), in a new live soundtrack to Derek
Jarman's film "The Angelic Conversation" in Turin, Italy. "When I Leave
You", their first limited edition EP was released in 2007 and "Digital
Angel", Othon's debut album, which contains a selection of pieces
performed by Tomasini, David Tibet and Marc Almond came out at the end
of 2008 on the Durtro Jnana label. Last year Othon and Tomasini were
chosen by designer Nasir Mazhar to perform and model his creations at
the "London Fashion Week".
“Othon
& Tomasini’s concert was entertaining, intense and of an
extraordinary quality” Radio 3 (National radio), Spain
2009
"[Othon
& Tomasini] are so musically and vocally superior that their work
is genius. It surely is extremely original and
idiosyncratic.” Transmission,
Norway 2009
“[Othon’s] wondrous piano arrangements and
lyrical romanticism make for an ambitiously arch cabaret full of
devilish wonder” Plan B, USA 2009
"Tomasini's
vocal span of 4 octaves in itself was enough to thrill the audience
but this sort of technically impressive performance was not the main
focus. There was in store a wonderful tour-de force [that] made the
evening just as uplifting and joyful as it was moving." Martin
Hall, Denmark 2007
